She stood in the kitchen, slicing vegetables for her stew. Her husband sat motionless at the table, completely silent. For the first five minutes, all you could hear was chopping.
The wife finally broke the silence. "Is she prettier than me?"
No answer. She continued. "She must be, to have caught your eye. You've always been picky. I remember how surprised I was when you asked me out. So confident I'd say yes. Which, of course, I did. And why wouldn't I? The hottest guy in school. Every girl's dream. And you wanted me." She chuckled. "Never figured out why. I didn't believe you when you said I was the best. I guess it really was a lie."
She glanced at him. He wasn't facing her. He didn't say a word, and the silence resumed. She finished chopping and set the vegetables aside. She reached for the meat and her husband shifted. She paused and looked over. His head slumped forward and he rested his forehead on the ta
What Makes An Angel?Almost everyday, I'm told I am amazing, wonderful, even an angel. And it makes me so sad. What am I doing that's so great? I'm helping animals. I'm loving them as they deserve to be loved. I'm taking care of them to the best of my ability. I help them feel better when they are sick, play with them when they want to play, and hold them when they are sad. Why is that so special? Isn't that what everyone should be doing?
Is the world really such a terrible place that those who give a shit are seen as angels? Why does it have to be like that? Why can't we all care and help, not only with animals, but with everything? Why must it be "going the extra mile"? It should come naturally to help. Think of how much happier everyone would be. We might even achieve world peace!
