Almost everyday, I'm told I am amazing, wonderful, even an angel. And it makes me so sad. What am I doing that's so great? I'm helping animals. I'm loving them as they deserve to be loved. I'm taking care of them to the best of my ability. I help them feel better when they are sick, play with them when they want to play, and hold them when they are sad. Why is that so special? Isn't that what everyone should be doing?
Is the world really such a terrible place that those who give a shit are seen as angels? Why does it have to be like that? Why can't we all care and help, not only with animals, but with everything? Why must it be "going the extra mile"? It should come naturally to help. Think of how much happier everyone would be. We might even achieve world peace!
I know, asking a bit much there, but it's not that hard to give just a little bit more. Spare that fifty cents to the man on the corner. Spare those scraps of food to the cat with her ribs showing. If nothing else, spare a smile to a stranger. Show you care. And then we all can be angels.
